Protected Area Permits in Sikkim (For Domestic and Foreign Tourists)
Protected Area Permits (PAP) are issued for
- Domestic tourists /locals for protected areas in Sikkim,
- Foreign tourist for Tsomgo Lake in the East Sikkim and Lachen-Lachung-Yumthang-Thangu Valley in North Sikkim and
- Two-Wheelers/Motor Bike Permit
PAP for various places in Sikkim are as follows:
- East District:-

- Tshongo – Baba Mandir - permit are issued by Police Check Post for Domestic Tourist. Foreign tourist are allowed till Tsongo Lake, permit is issued by Tourism & Civil Aviation Department and vehicle permit is issued by Police check post applied through a registered Travel Agency.
- Nathula Pass – Permit is issued by Tourism Department and vehicle permit is issued by Police Check Post for domestic tourist issued through a registered Travel Agency.

- Dzongri Trek – Permit is issued by TIC Pelling & TIC Gangtok .
- Singalila Trek – Permit is issued by TIC Pelling after clearance from Home Department, Forest Department and Army through registered Travel Agencies.

- Yumthang – Permit is issued by Police check post for Domestic Tourist and for foreigners permit is issued by Tourism Department and vehicle permit is issued from Police Check Post.
- Yumesamdong - Permit is issued by Police check post for Domestic Tourist and for foreigners permit is issued by Tourism Department and vehicle pass is issued from Police Check Post
- Thangu-Chopta Valley – Permit is issued by Police Check post for Domestic Tourist and for Foreigners permit is issued by Tourism Department and vehicle permit Police check post. Foreigners must apply through a Sikkim Tourism registered Travel Agent in groups of two people or more for visiting these areas.
- Gurudongmar – Permit is issued by Police check post for domestic tourist and for foreigners permit is issued by Permit Cell, Tourism Department till Thangu.
- Green Lake Trekking Permit is issued by Adventure Cell of Tourism Department after clearance from Forest department, Home Department and Army applied through a registered Travel Agency.

- Mainam Trekking: Trekking permits are issued from TIC Pelling and TIC Gangtok through a registered Travel Agency after clearance is obtained from Home/Army/Forest and Police
- Alpine Mountaineering Expedition permit is issued by Tourism Department after obtaining clearance from Home Department, Forest Army, Police, for the following peaks as per the Home Department Notification no: 25/Home/2006 dated 20/3/2006 TinchenKhang 5603 metres ( West Sikkim)
Jopuno 5935m (West Sikkim)
Freys peak 5830m(West Sikkim)
Lama Angden 5868m( North Sikkim )
Brum Khangse 5433m ( North Sikkim )

- National park and Wildlife Sanctuary entry permits is issued by Forest Department at Gangtok.
