Itinerary:

Day 1: Gangtok to Lachen

  • Departure from Vajra Stand in Gangtok between 10:30 AM and 12:00 PM, with permits ready for travel into North Sikkim.
  • Travel to Lachen via Chungthang, approximately 96 km from Gangtok, with stops en route.
  • Continue 29 km from Chungthang to reach Lachen by late afternoon or early evening.
  • Check in at your hotel in Lachen, enjoy a welcome tea, and spend the evening exploring at leisure.
  • Overnight Stay: Hotel in Lachen.

Day 2: Lachen to Gurudongmar Lake and Drive to Lachung

  • After an early start, travel from Lachen to Gurudongmar Lake, covering around 55 km and reaching altitudes of 15,000 feet where permits will be verified.
  • Explore Gurudongmar Lake, a sacred site for Buddhists at nearly 15,800 feet, surrounded by snow-covered peaks and known for its year-round patch of unfrozen water.
  • Return to Lachen for lunch, then continue to Lachung for the evening.
  • Overnight Stay: Hotel in Lachung.

Day 3: Lachung to Yumthang Valley and Return to Gangtok

  • After breakfast, visit Yumthang Valley, known as the Valley of Flowers, located 25 km away. The valley is covered with snow in winter and bursts with rhododendrons in spring.
  • After spending time at Yumthang, return to the hotel for lunch or pick up a packed lunch.
  • Afternoon drive back to Gangtok, covering approximately 130 km in 5 hours, arriving at Vajra Stand by around 7 PM.

  • Zero Point Visit: For those who wish to go further, a visit to Zero Point from Yumthang can be arranged for an additional charge of Rs. 3,500 per vehicle (or Rs. 350 per person).
